This is probably the first photo, ever, of two saints:
Sts. Damien of Molokai and Marianne Cope
St. Marianne, who was just canonized, is standing by the funeral bier of St. Damien. You can read more about the photograph here.
Also, for a fictional, but still excellent, treatment of St. Marianne’s home for girls at Kalaupapa, I recommend Alan Brennert’s novel Molokai.
