Taking the veil

So…I just ordered a chapel veil.

I’m 27, which means I am a post-Vatican II baby. I never heard Mass in Latin, and the only time my head was covered in church was for my first communion.

But I’ve seen a lot of women veiling lately–of all ages. And I’m a really girly girl. I like anything lacy and pretty.

So when I was at a new church this week, and saw veiled women, I started searching the internet for things on veiling.

Wow. There’s a lot out there.

This is the one I purchased. And I also purchased this to keep it in. (Course you can’t get it now, because I got the last one–ha!–but I think she’s planning on making more.)

Next week will probably be the first time I try this out at Mass. Hopefully it goes OK–as in, stays on. :)

What do y’all think about veiling? Have you ever wanted to try it? (If you’re a girl) Do you see folks do it?

Hi Catholic Poster Girl,

I follow your blog from time to time and this one caught my attention. I am also 27 and have been considering purchasing a chapel veil, but I think that if I do, I might be too afraid to wear it. Every time I go to Mass I look around to see if anyone is wearing it and usually there is only one maybe two people.

Personally, if it weren’t for the fact that very few in my area wear them, I would choose to wear a chapel veil every time I attend Mass. If you go to this website http://www.latin-mass-society.org/wearmantilla.htm, you will read that the “veil” represented purity and modesty. When a woman covers her head in the Catholic Church it symbolizes her dignity and humility before God, not men.

Wow, after reading what the website had to say, I may have to buy a chapel veil. Thank you for your post!
