Hi Em -

Sara is also one who has decided to not use birth control, and will face some tough decisions when she gets married due to her lupus. But we had a situation almost two years ago with our ex-family doctor (who is Catholic, BTW) who asked SAra if she wanted to go on BC pills because she was heading off to her first year of college! Sara's reply was priceless - No, I don't want to go on BC pills for several reasons: a) I plan on staying a virgin until I get married; b) it goes against the Church's teachings (aren't YOU Catholic, anyway - she wanted to say that to him so much); and c) I can't take the pill becaus I have LUPUS, and you should know that. He looked rather dumbfounded, and we didn't go back to him after that.

I also wanted to let you know that I'm nominating your blog for a Catholic blog award!

And yes, we remember Fr. Mark with extreme fondness - he helped us through a lot when Sara was at CHildren's.

I will contact you soon about my earlier message concerning Sara.

Here is a blog site in which the author (also a party-line Catholic) frequently posts articles deconstructing this type of stuff.

I have been edified reading his site.

I know a mother who has two children only (a 'sin' in the big Catholic family world....) and has to postpone another pregnancy indefinitely b/c she has a high chance of hemorrhaging. When I spoke with her a few years ago, she had just lost a very dear friend (young mom) b/c she hemorrhaged during labor. When speaking to my husband about this, his knee-jerk reaction was: 'use birth control'... then he shook himself and said that of course we wouldn't use that... we both sat there in awe of this couple's faith.

God will bless your faithfulness!
