New pastor

It’s been a well-known fact for quite awhile now (like, I would say, almost a year) that my parish is due for a new pastor. We’ve had our current one since I was in sixth grade (that’s 1993, folks…yikes), which is over the usual 10 year limit, so we knew a change was coming, but we just didn’t know when. We figured at the latest it would be this summer, when our diocese traditionally re-assigns pastors.

Well, we found out in the church bulletin yesterday that our new pastor is going to be Msgr. David Funk (great name!) of St. Agatha’s parish in Upper Arlington. No one seems to know a whole lot about him (not even our current pastor), but he’s due to be installed here July 12th (day after my tx anniversary!). It will certainly be interesting.

Fr. Dan, our current pastor, is definitely someone I’ve gotten used to. I like his preaching style, and he’s been my pastor a long time, as I noted above. I thought he would marry me for sure (now Fr. Mark is doing that! Ha ha! Oh wait…have to get engaged first. Right.) It will be very odd not to have Fr. Dan at St. Pius, not to have him at our Parish Council meetings, not to see him walking Sophie, his dog. Very, very strange. I don’t know how Protestant churches do it, keeping one pastor for generations and then he retires/dies. That’s got to be really hard.

I think St. Agatha’s is similar to St. Pius; suburban, I believe it’s about the same size, and it is has a school. So we’ll see what happens…I’m hopeful, though. Change is good. Most of the time.
