Feast of the Holy Trinity (and other items)

One of the things I love about June is that we get so many great feasts all packed in together. This week, the Holy Trinity. I believe next week is Corpus Christi, which is one of my favorites.

Of course I didn’t think it was a real celebration of the Holy Trinity because we didn’t sing anything good! No “Holy, Holy, Holy”! We did get in a “Come, Holy Ghost” (as part of another hymn). It was the school’s eighth grade graduation Mass, so that might explain some of it, but I want my feast-specific hymns! Just like I want my season-specific hymns!

All right I’ll stop being grouchy now. :) The point is I really do like all these awesome feast days. :)

In other news…

The long-awaited (and I do mean, long-awaited) Moto Proprio from Rome is, according to Fr. Z  and Amy W., coming this week. Or at least very, very shortly. Amy’s website even has a primer on it on the right sidebar. Should be exciting.

Read David Currie’s Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic last night and highly recommend it to all, especially anyone  who deals with , um, “inquisitive” Protestants and others on a regular basis.  The book discusses his conversion to Catholicism by way of certain doctrines, and includes thoughtful chapters on topics such as Mary, the Primacy of Rome, the Bible, sola fide and sola scriptura and saints. Very enjoyable, and a relatively quick read (that is, if you’re familiar with these concepts already. If you’re not, try reading Scott and Kimberly Hahn’s Rome Sweet Home first. And read that anyway, because it is great!).
